Smart Grid Washington: Low Income Customers and Smart Meters

Chris King, eMeter Strategic Consulting

PowerCentsDC, a Smart Grid pilot in Washington DC, found that low income customers sign up for such programs at higher rates and reduce peak demand by substantial amounts. This comprehensive residential pilot included critical peak prices, Peak Time Rebates, and hourly pricing, in addition to sophisticated information treatments and automated HVAC control. Results include load reductions, participation rates, and survey responses. This presentation will be made by industry expert and President of eMeter Strategic Consulting in the session on Smart Grid at EUEC 2011: Feb 1-2, Phoenix, Arizona.
